New condition, but priced hundreds below the cost for a new one ($1350.00 at Dixie Gun Works, $1420.00 at Cherry's Fine Guns)! Inspired by the original firearms built by H.W. Mortimer of London, this reproduction flintlock English dueling and target pistol was manufactured by Davide Pedersoli of Italy. "Distinctive in Appearance" is the best way to describe the legendary saw handle Mortimer pistols, which first appeared c.1810. This superb Pedersoli reproduction, bearing the original markings, offers all of the original's technical and ballistic characteristics. The stock is made from American walnut with a checkered saw handle grip. The centerpiece of the pistol is a .44 caliber octagon barrel which measures 10 1/16" in length and is polished to an armory bright finish. The barrel has 7 groove fast-twist rifling, with a rate of 1 turn in 18 inches. The top flat of the barrel is marked “H.W. Mortimer & Son London / Gun Makers to His Majesty”. The left flat of the barrel has the factory markings, the serial number and proofs, and is also marked “PEDERSOLI – ITALY CAL .44 and BLACK POWDER ONLY”. The short rear sight, an integral part of the hooked breech tang, is a fixed open style. The front sight is a 0.210 dovetail blued steel base and blade. There is a sliding external safety on the lock. This pistol has a very sophisticated single set trigger that can be fired set or unset. A single wedge key secures the barrel to the hooked breech. The barrel can be lifted from the stock for easy cleaning by placing the lock at half cock, closing the frizzen, removing the ramrod, then using a small brass drift to wedge the key past the underlug. The overall length of the pistol is 15 3/4” and overall weight is 2.2 lbs.
This pistol has never been fired and includes the original box, owner’s manual and a CD containing the correct use and maintenance of a black powder firearm.
