IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, 44 SPECIAL HAND EJECTOR 2ND MODEL TARGET REVOLVER, #31XXX, MADE THE YEAR OF THE STOCK MARKET CRASH IN 1929! It seems all of the pre-war .44 Special caliber S&W revolvers have become extremely hard to find in any configuration and in any condition. The target versions are nearly impossible to find now and rarely show up for sale. The workmanship in these revolvers has to be felt to be believed. Everything was hand fitted by S&W's best craftsmen. Compared to their standard "K" frame .38 Special revolvers- a favorite of law enforcement agencies- relatively few big "N" frame .44s were built for the commercial market with target versions very limited. This example has matching serial numbers on the butt, barrel and cylinder. The deep dish medallion S&W grips fit perfectly and show sharp diamond checkering. The revolver retains about all the original blue with only some light "flaking" to brown on the right side of the frame behind and below the cylinder- none of which is serious. The front face of the cylinder retains good blue indicating that this revolver was not fired much. Good light case colors remain on the trigger and hammer. Tight action and bright excellent bore. A truly great S&W from the very start of the Great Depression Era nearly 100 years ago!
