Description:
"

This cased pair of Andrew Wurfflein pistols of Philadelphia is exceptional in every way. The officer's type target pistols are in like new condition. They have approx. 6"" rifled 36 caliber barrels with fine bores and strong rifling. The barrels have their original deep lustrous brown finish. The locks, hammers, breeches, and tangs are color case hardened. The German silver triggerguards, forend caps, and escutcheons are fine. The fine iron butt caps have lines radiating from the center screw. The stocks are excellent with sharp edges and crisp checkering. Both pistols have their original ramrods. The locks are marked A. Wurfflein/Phila. They are both equipped with adjustable double set triggers. Both actions, including the set triggers function correctly. The trunk type case is chamois lined. The case exterior is very good with the expected age wear. The lid has GR embossed on it. The interior partitions are intact and show little wear. Included in the case are a fine combination bullet mold/screwdriver/nipple wrench (does not fit the nipples on the guns), a fine nickel-plated Dixon three compartment (powder, balls, and caps) flask, a fine iron jag for cleaning, a sealed Braum & Bloem cardboard container of 100 BB percussion caps, a small 1"" diameter bone cap container, and 17 lead balls. This is a great cased set of percussion pistols made by Andrew Wurfflein, a top Philadelphia maker. Andrew worked as a gunsmith in Philadelphia from 1845 into the 1870s. Sets such as this one are rarely seen, especially considering the exceptional condition of the pistols. This set is fit for the finest collection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only Andrew Wurfflein cased set like this.
