Circa 1840/50s Long Rifle with a “J. GOLCHER” Lock
Here we present an antique Full-Stock, Heavy Barreled Long Rifle with a J. Golcher lock, made circa the 1840/50s. This rifle would have been used to hunt medium to large sized game or dispatching the enemy from greater distances than most other muskets could fire accurately at that time.
This rifle features a heavy 39” octagonal barrel in .45 caliber, large enough to take big game. There is a blade front sight and a plain open sight mounted near the breach. This rifle also comes equipped with double set triggers for a light and crisp trigger break. Attractive maple was used in the making of this stock. The curvature (drop) of the stock at the wrist as well as the girth makes this one unique.
The overall condition is good. Strong action (double set triggers). The bore is in good shape for its age. The maple striped stock is solid with a nice smooth finish. “J. GOLCHER” engraved lock. Three grooves are carved out of the cheekpiece.
