This listing is for my Winchester Deluxe Hi Wall Model 1885 heavy barrel target rifle in 32WCF (32-20) Caliber. The serial number is 20004, which puts it in the 1888 year of manufacture, per the factory letter. Being an antique, a FFL is not required, but I will need a photocopy of your driver's license for my records and to prove you are over 21 years of age.  The factory letter states that the rifle was originally shipped with a 32 inch barrel in 40/60 caliber. The factory letter will be included with the rifle.
I purchased the rifle in 2016 and it is in the same condition as I received it. I shot one box of 32-20 Cowboy loads through it in my back yard, cleaned it, and it has resided in my gun safe encased in a protective Sack-Up sleeve since then. I had hoped to pass this on to my children, but they are not interested, so it needs a new home.
The rifle has a checkered pistol grip stock and forearm. The walnut has very fancy grain, probably 3X. The finish on the wood is at least 95% of what appears to be original finish. The checkering is in very good condition with little wear. There is no pistol grip cap, but the end of the grip is carved and has an ebony insert. The buttplate is a brass Swiss buttplate as indicated in the factory letter and is in good condition. The left side of the buttstock has a cheekpiece with additional carved shadow below it, as these were usually done in that time period. The foreend is in excellent condition and has an ebony insert in the tip. There are no cracks and virtually no scratches in the wood.
The receiver is gray and is smooth on the left side and has slight rougness on the right side. It appears to have originally been case colored, but all the color has faded away. The rifle has a set trigger and it works correctly. The action works flawlessly. The bore is shiny with good rifling. The 30 inch octagon barrel is a Winchester 32 WCF extra heavy #4 barrel and so marked on the bottom just ahead of the front wood. There are traces of original blue along the front wood and around the rear sight, but I would call the barrel gray/brown. The barrel has a buckhorn rear sight and what appears to be a Lyman brass bead front sight.
Although there is no record of a repair order, the rifle was very likely returned to Winchester at some point and rebarreled to 32WCF. The barrel is correct for that and is a perfect fit on the rifle .
This is apparently a deluxe rifle that was used for bench rest shooting and was well cared for.
Please look at the photos provided. I can supply additional photos upon request. Please ask any questions prior to purchasing, as this one will be expensive to ship, probably around $150. Payment must be by USPS Money Orders. Shipping will be in a good quality padded hard case via insured UPS Ground.
