Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: **SOLD** This is an 1880 production Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine in .44-40 WCF caliber. This '73 SRC has been well-used over the many years it has been around but relatively well cared-for as the mechanics seem to be in perfect working order. As one of the most famous Winchester "Cowboy Guns" of all time, the 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine is right there with the Colt Single Action Army as two guns that almost "won the West" by themselves. The compact size and 20" inch barrel combined with the ability to carry this carbine with a single point sling made it very popular for guys on horseback. The 1873's were also chambered in many of the Colt SAA calibers, giving the owner the very important ability to share ammo between their long gun and revolver. This particular example is in .44-40 WCF, widely considered the best man-stopper and hunting round of the time. As you can see from the pictures, it is a gray patina gun, almost every bit of the original factory finish has been worn or aged off of the carbine. The balance of the gun is a uniform gray which is still attractive, particularly to those that like old west guns with a lot of character. The sliding top cover is still on this Winchester, and all of the factory markings are still legible although some are more faint than others. If there has been a replacement part installed on this Winchester it would be the loading gate, however it too shows very little finish with only traces of blue on the protected edges that are up against the inside of the gun when the loading gate is at rest. It has been on this gun countless decades in our opinion and is certainly an original factory part. If only this Winchester could talk there is no telling what history it has witnessed or participated in. The original stock set on this 1873 SRC matches the metal very well in that it shows an equal degree of wear and handling marks. Despite all of the visible wear showing on the wood, neither the forearm nor buttstock show any cracks or repairs with the exception of one very small little crack just ahead of the top tang of the buttplate. As you can see in the pictures, it is very minor and would have no real effect on the stability of the buttstock. All of the stock hardware is still intact and original, including the buttplate (with a sliding trap door for a cleaning rod kit), the front barrel band, and all of the screws in both parts. We have no doubt should the new owner so choose, this Winchester could still be shot at the farm or range as long as it is well cared for afterwards. If you have been looking for an original antique Winchester 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine for your collection you can enjoy as a shooter as well as an investment that is still affordable, this 1880-vintage '73 SRC would be an excellent choice. This Winchester 1873 SRC would also make a VERY cool decorator on a wall in a family room or man cave, hanging above a fireplace, or displayed on a bookshelf. It is certainly a gun that you can look at and handle and just imagine the history this legendary Winchester has witnessed.
