Description:
The Kel-Tec Sub 2000 was designed to be one of the most convenient and easily transportable 9mm rifles available. It caused quite a stir when it was originally introduced back in 2001 due to its ability to be folded, allowing the rifle to be stowed away in say, a backpack for hiking for example. One other factor contributed to the Sub 2000s growing success – lack of proper competition. The only other comparable guns where the Marlin Camp Carbine and the Ruger PC-9, both of which were ‘rigid’ carbines. The Marlin had just ended production in 1999 in a case of shortsightedness, while the Ruger PC would end production in its then existent version just five years later in 2006. Again this was due to a case of shortsightedness and a belief that there was little demand for a pistol caliber carbine. Meanwhile, demand for pistol-caliber carbines was growing each year. It can certainly be said that the Sub 2000 sold very well despite the supposed lack of demand for such a firearm. After realizing their mistake, Ruger would return with a much better version of the PC, now with a take-down feature, in 2017. Needless to say this left the Sub 2000 with a wide open market for eleven years. The version shown here is a new-in-box Gen 2 that uses Glock 17 magazines. This way, the owner can use one magazine for both rifle and pistol provided they have the Glock 17 pistol as well. There are many aftermarket accessories available for the Sub 2000, including a scope base that not only allows one to mount an optic on the gun, but to also fold the scope over to the side allowing the rifle to be folded as normal. The barrel is also threaded for attaching any muzzle device of the user’s choosing. As it can use the standard Glock 17 magazine, the Sub 2000 will also use the extended 33-round Glock magazine. If you are looking for a good backpacking gun, the Sub 2000 is an excellent choice.
