Description:
For sale is a MANNLICHER-SCHOENAUER MCA (1961) 30-06 Deluxe 20” barrel Carbine, serial number 38116 w/matching numbers, single trigger, manufactured in “62” at Oesterreich Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft Steyr in Steyr, Austria. It is a custom order through Abercrombie & Fitch w/vintage Griffin & Howe scope side mount. This rifle likely inspired the "mountain rifles" and certainly modern rifles with "Mannlicher" stocks. It’s characterized by a flat turned down and flattened "spatulated" bolt handle in the white for calvary scabbard, Schoenauer spool magazine, split rear receiver ring and indexed screws. There are two (2) safeties; traditional located from behind the bolt handle "wing", and another on the right of "tang". The traditional safety (redundant) was eliminated in “63”. It was promoted as the "World’s Finest Rifle" and that very well may be true. Author Ernest Hemmingway hunted with a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Carbine as mentioned in some of his stories. The high cost complicated machining and hand-fitting eventually put it out of reach of most hunters. The beautiful, oiled wood stock has nicely figured European walnut with scupted wood engraving, which is not factory executed. This rifle is approximately 96-98% with some bluing loss around magazine, because this gun hunted, but reflects excellent care. It was completely disassembled inspected, cleaned, and in excellent mechanical condition. Not included and optional is a Leupold VX-3i 1.5X5 20MM w/Leupold Alumina Flip-Back lens covers (2) that you see in pictures.
