Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1958, 12 Gauge, 8lb 4oz, Chokes .021/.031 M/F; 28"= SK/SK, LOP 14 1/2", DAH 1 11/16", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 61462 The genius of John M. Browning gave the shooting world some of the most famous firearms ever created - several Winchester lever guns, Colt pistols like the 1911, the Hi Power and the first successful semi-auto shotgun, the Auto-5. In the early decades of the twentieth century Browning started to design something not available to American shooters, a high-quality affordable over/under shotgun, and sadly his last design and final legacy to the gun world, The Superposed. The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in conservative field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, the Browning Superposed production was undertaken in Belgium, from 1931 through 1977 when traditional craftsmanship style production ended. We have available for sale an example of the venerable Browning Superposed Grade 1 - the most sought after Superposed guns - the long tang, round knob built before 1966. Among collectors, these are considered the more elegant of the Superposed profiles as they add a touch of the "old school cool" to the gun and are guaranteed to be salt free. This Superposed, sn61462 was built in 1958 and is fitted with two barrels both vented and both serial numbered to the action. Barrel #1 is 30" and choked MOD/FULL with great bluing and a mirror bore. Barrel #2 is choked for skeet and like set #1 has all of its blue and exhibits mirror bores. It has seen many days on the skeet fields as is evidenced by the well handled forend- the photographs tell the tale, just imagine how many clays have been smashed with this combo! The action and trigger guard likewise show their vintage and history with the factory blue fading to a beautiful silver gray, an effect that is earned and hard to fake. The shotgun is equipped with a selectable safety and well timed ejectors. Its triggers break cleanly at 5.5 and 4.75lbs respectively. The gorgeous figured French walnut shows fiddleback extending from the comb to the belly and moves with the light and angle in an almost holographic dance. The fiddleback is layered throughout with wavy grain and the stock is capped with a classic Browning horn buttplate. If this wood were to be refinished it would be a truly stunning piece of furniture, but as it stands, this combo is priced to sell in its condition.
