John Parkes, a fine 18th century Gunmaker, worked from his shop in London from the 1760s to 1780s. He was noted for his brass-barreled pistols and most especially for his exceptional silverwork. This is a scarce 250-year-old example of his work to survive, displaying his talent of the silversmith’s art on the silver masked pommel cap and delicate silver wire inlays. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of Britain during the mid-to-late-1700s. The pommel bears British silver hallmarks: a lion that indicates Sterling .925, an anchor which indicates Birmingham, an “M” within a pentagon which indicates a date range of July 1784 to November 1785, and “CF” within a rectangle which indicates Crispin Fuller as the craftsman. The frame and trigger guard of the pistol are engraved. The overall condition is very good. The action remains strong and will spark. The cock with go into both half- and full-cocked positions but it helps to press the trigger forward to get it fully secure in the full-cock notch. The top jaw of the cock is a replacement. Good smooth bore. Inlaid wire on the grip, light handling wear. Birmingham proofs on the underside. A very handsome piece of English craftsmanship. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels is 3-1/4 inches Caliber: .44 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
