Description:
I purchased this historical gun from the late Norm Flayderman's collection many years ago. I am including the documentation that Norm sent me with the gun. It is an excellent condition M1849 Colt Pocket pistol, 6 shot .31 cal. with a 4" barrel. 1 Line NY address. As stated by Norm ""The cylinder has 2 series of numbers "204656" and "189911" and was probably replaced by the factory as the die stamps used to strike the matching set are identical to the others on the gun."" Colt often replaced cylinders to the soldiers in the field as attested to by the many Colts and factory letters that Norm had and sold over the years. The gun has 100% original casehardening on the frame, loading lever and hammer with the colors being quite nice. It has 75% original bright blue on the barrel and traces of blue on cylinder mixing with smooth aged brown. Metal throughout is ex+ and all matching in condition. Cylinder scene is exc+ 100% silver on backstrap, grips are almost mint. Neatly scratched by the soldier himself along the inner edge of the grips and running the full length right to the frame "A.W. BATES Co.C 29th Mass. Vols." As attested to by Norm, " These scratched markings are clear and legible and they show age and wear consistant with the gun itself and we feel are completly authentic to it."
ASA W. BATES fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Vicksburg and was wounded at Savage's Station Va. Rated Fine condition overall by Norm Flayderman. I am including the ad for this gun from his catalogue and other research papers. Asking $2150.00 or best offer. SALE PENDING.
