This rifle retains 97-98% of the original blue finish, with some trace freckling on the exposed portion of the barrel, receiver, nosecap, barrel band, and some mild gray fading on the edges of the magazine door. The bolt retains the original armory bright finish with a few specks of plum-brown freckling, and about 30-40% of the original fire blue remains on the extractor. The walnut stock and handguard have some small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the original finish, and both the “JSA / 1900" cartouche, and proof stamp are still clear and legible. The buttplate has 90% of the original bright blue remaining, and bright color case-hardening on the stock compartment door (a segmented cleaning rod is present within). Additionally, the rifle has a period leather sling installed that has some minor flaking at the flex points, but is otherwise supple and still serviceable, and a brass muzzle-cover is also included. This is an excellent example of a late production Model 1898 Krag, and would make a great addition to any collection.
