Description:
Serial #1363, 16 Bore (2 1/2"), 28" barrels with fine, bright bores that have a few tiny spots of freckling towards the breeches (choked FULL and MOD). This is a very handsome gun that has Birmingham nitro proofs (1925 – 1954) on the barrels and water table. The barrels have retained 95-97% of the maker-applied blue finish, with some silvering at the muzzles, and some scattered areas of mild freckling along each tube. The frame retains 50-60% of the original color case-hardening, with the forward portion of the frame worn to a mellow, pewter gray patina. The back-action lockplates retain 85-90% color case-hardening, as do the hammers, and most of the original blue remains on the top lever, while the trigger guard retains about 40-50% blue. The checkered splinter forend is in fine shape, with some flattening of the points and a maker-reapplied finish. The straight-grip buttstock is likewise in fine shape with a maker-reapplied finish and only a few very minor handling marks and blemishes (and old sling swivel hole was filled-in just behind the blank escutcheon plate). The stock has a 14 1/4" LOP to a grooved, wooden butt, and has drops of 1 1/4" and 1 3/4" respectively. The gun has tight lock-up, is on-face, and the lever rests just right of center. This is a fabulous little British double gun, in excellent condition, and would make a great upland gun for pheasant or partridge. FFL or C&R
