They are famous for there hand tools and made a number of implements for British and Canadian troops. This bill hook was sent to Canada and was sheathed in a scabbard made in Montreal by J.E.LORTIE is stamped 1942. The blade is massive and designed for hard work, it is 15 ½ inches overall with a 10 inch blade and 5/8th at the thickest. The blade is in fine condition with almost no surface corrosion. The blade is still sharp and has a nice patina. The blade is stamped with the name of the maker, 1940 and most of a Broad Arrow mark, seems it was not fully struck when made. There is a small crack in the outside of the handle, it runs vertical and seems stable. The scabbard is in fine overall condition with many years of use but no major injury. All the stitches are intact and tight with all 18 reinforcing rivets firm. The hardware on this scabbard has light verdigris. A nice and scarce too for the collector.
