Description:
These fantastic are 58 cal., 7 1/2” rd bbl., blue/gold finish, & metal stocks. These early 19th C pistols have 3 stage smooth bore pistols with Scottish thistle engraving on the mid-section, floral pattern on the muzzles sections which are octangonal & lightly flared , ribbed breech section with gold vent liners, & file work at the breech ends. The rainproof locks have frizzen spring rollers, Marshall & Sons, signed on the rectangular gold panels, floral & martial engraving , & sliding 1/2 cock safetyies. The triggers are shaped like golden acorns. The blue steel stocks have gold inlaid floral patterns on the forends, gold inlaid thistle & scroll patterns on the undersides of the mid-section , gold inlaid martial trophies & thistle patterns on the side of the wrist with a Scottish shield on the right & English shield on the left. More gold inlaid thistle designs along the blank gold ovals on the back of the wrists, raised gilt silver inlay toward the bottom of the wrists inscribed with a waxing crescent moon over a torse on the right & the initials DP on the left. There is gilt silver ramshorns butts with threaded acorn vents vent picks. Nicely sculptured ramrods are fitted under the bbls & belt hooks are fitted on the left side of the stocks. This pair is fitted in walnut wood case with a mainspring vise, measure, powder flask, oiler, over-sized bullet mold, & screwdriver.
Marshall & Sons are of Edinburgh were william Marshall is listed in period directors as a 19th c goldsmith. The Marshalls were goldsmiths to Queen Victoria, The Royal Academy of Archers, Princess Louise, & the Royal Caledonian Hunt. The DP on the left wrist escutcheon are for the Pettigrew family. Both weapons would rate out at least in 70-80% condition & are mechanically fine. These are in my opinion one of the finer most elaborate Scottish pistols I have ever seen.
