Description:
Here is a Colt Paterson No. 5, also known as the Texas Paterson, with case and accoutrements. It is a 36 cal with a 5-shot cylinder and has a 7 1/2 inch barrel. This is one of the rarest prizes of the Colt collector with only 1000 being originally built. Because of the high demand, extreme rarity and high cost of an original, down through the years some beautiful and accurate copies have been made. This is one of those old and outstanding COPIES, built with a careful eye to detail. The cylinder has the correct roll just like an original. It also has the correct barrel address roll. The serial numbers are the correct size and style. And, like 90%+ of the originals, you cannot view the serial numbers without taking the pistol apart. The serial numbers on this gun are also placed in the correct places. I have pictured some of the serial numbers but there are also two serial numbers under the grips and one on the back of the barrel lug.
The wood case is a high-grade antique walnut with an ebony key hole cover. The key locks and unlocks easily. It has a coffin style lid like all the Paterson cases had. The interior is blue velvet. The flask is marked on the bottom with an arched Colts Patent.
The Texas Paterson has had the greatest appeal to Colt collectors due to its large size and its association with the Texas Rangers. This is the only cased Paterson copy with accoutrements that I have ever seen offered for sale. Rarely, you will see just a Paterson.
Whoever built this cased Paterson and assembled the accoutrements spared no expense or detail and the result is spectacular.
