VERY FINE CONDITION U.S. ARMY 1909 NEW SERVICE REVOLVER, .45 COLT, #43XXX, MADE 1911. These beautifully fit and finished big Colts were the last of the U.S. issued double actions in .45 Colt caliber. They were replaced with the "new" Model 1911 .45 auto and later with the Model 1917 New Service in .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim for World War I. The Model 1909 displays the gorgeous high polish finish of the time. This example shows fine high polish blue with some dulling on the barrel sides and on some small areas of the cylinder, but generally the frame, barrel top etc. show this original high polish finish. The hammer back and trigger also show nice fire blue. Even shows fine blue on the grip straps. The walnut grips are generally excellent, fit perfectly and are inspection stamped "R.A.C." (for Rinaldo A. Carr) on the bottom. The butt is correctly stamped "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1909" with the serial number and lanyard swivel intact. The bottom of the barrel is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY." The front sight has not been altered, all markings are sharp and clear including the stylized "C" rampant colt marking on the left side of the frame. "R.A.C." inspector stamps are on the cylinder, barrel and frame. Exc. action and bore. These are hard to find.
