Description: Drillings, Double Rifles, and Rifles - This classic double rifle features rebounding hammers and stalking safeties. What really attracts me to this double is the excellent bores and the 25-30% case colors that still remain on the action. The grip obviously repaired in the Frederick Selous tradition with the very strong brass wrap. It shows no movement. The story goes that F. Selous while on safari had a rifle stepped on by a camel and broken at the wrist. The wrist was repaired in the style of this rifle and Selous was so impressed from then on had his rifles reinforced in this fashion to prevent future breaks. What if this was one of his rifles? *I said the bore is excellent which I will stand by. I will not say it is like new. The rifling is bright and quite sharp in both barrels. The right bore has some very light pitting up close to the rifling where it is difficult to clean. From experience I feel this could be removed. To sum it up the bores on this rifle are in excellent condition considering this is a black powder rifle from near 150 years ago and certainly should produce excellent groups. *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 4784 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection. |
