19” Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun!
Here we present a Belgian made Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Shotgun, made circa the early -1900s likely in Liege, Belgium for import to the United States. Several Belgian companies made and imported many shotguns to American hardware stores, mail-order houses, and gun shops in the United States between 1893 and 1914. This particular shotgun would have been primarily used to protect precious cargo that was being shipped by Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo will forever be remembered as a stagecoach thundering across the American West, loaded with gold. The history of this company spans for over 160 years and is rich in events that have happened throughout the history of the United States. From the Gold Rush, through the Great Depression, and continuing today, Wells Fargo has travelled through the history of America as one of its greatest companies. Here in one of the shotguns it used to protect those interests it was guarding.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Original patina. The bores are in good shape, with a little bit of light texture at the breech end. Solid stock, well-used and stable. “WF & Co. EXP/507” is stamped on the trigger guard.
