Great Depression Era .22 Pump Action Rifle
Here we present a C&R Remington Model 12 Slide Action Rifle in .22 Rem. Special (.22 WRF), made circa the 1920s in Ilion, New York. Years of production were 1909 to 1936. This was Remington’s effort to compete against a host of other slide action rifles from the likes of Winchester and even Colt. Slide action .22s, in their day, were like semi-auto .22s in ours--prolific. This would have been a small bore rifle that would have been a fun plinker and an effective game harvester as well as having been many a boy’s first firearm.
This one is chambered in a cartridge slightly larger than .22 LR. It is Winchester’s .22 WRF rebranded. Ammunition is still available under the .22 WRF name and it fires a 45 grain bullet at about 1300 fps. The rifle features an octagonal barrel, hammerless design, and crescent butt plate.
The overall condition is near fine. Original finish/patina. The action is excellent. Very nice bore with strong rifling. The walnut stock is solid.
