Just want to buy. Description: This rifle is built just like the Marine armorers repaired them when they came back from Vietnam and subsequently went to the fleet. Many of the parts were rusted beyond refinishing. Remington Arms provided new/current issue parts. The metal parts and barrel action were black oxided and the wood stocks finished (Tru-oil) like the match rifles the armorers built for the shooting teams. The rifles were bedded for accuracy for the trained Scout Snipers. You will notice the aluminum buttplate, the Redfield scope base, the Redfield 4 screw top rings, the tall flat safety and maybe the shiny follower left that way for durability’s sake. The short bolt shroud was the issue part at the time. The aluminum trigger guard was left plain because the snipers were going to camo paint their rifles anyway. GySgt Hathcock demanded that despite orders from higher HQ. which were ignored. The sling was anything that could be found beit an OD greensling or if they knew a Marine Corps shooting Team member a leather sling might be offered. This scope was returned from Vietnam and had no finish left. I’ve kept it for the past 55 years for the purposes of building this particular rifle. The Iron Brigade armorers duracoated it green. All new original Redfield 3x9 power scopes used to be anodized green, but the jungles and rotten weather of Vietnam soon ended the finish. All the scopes had a rangefinder built into the reticle for 200 to 600 yards. Above that were the normal crosshairs and above that 2 stadia lines for holding over by a trained shooter. The original Witchita swivels provide solid sling support. This rifle has all these characteristics to include the wood stock that is a match for the original. The USMC gun book has these features noted in them and signed by the same men that did the work 50 years ago. I know that’s true because I was there. Lt. Col. N.A.
