Purdey no. 11,194 was made 1882-3 and is in remarkable condition. Recently refurbished in the UK and reproofed to 2-3/4” chambers this game gun is still performing. No. 1 of a pair it has rebounding hammers that allow the action to be opened when the hammers are cocked. The lock plates show residual case coloring and the engraving is crisp. Presented in a leather case with Purdey snap caps and maker’s label. Weight is 6lb 9oz. It is a magnificent example of the early Purdey hammerguns. When you consider that Purdey made only 1,600 hammerguns and that woodbars made up only a fraction of this total you can see how truly rare this gun is. And to find one in this condition is rare indeed! *** The 30” Whitworth nitro steel chopper lump barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and have extractors, and are topped with a raised solid game style rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons. 314-1/2 Oxford Street. London Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid-Pressed Steel”. The bluing is in excellent condition. The right barrel is bored 0.741” with a constriction of 0.004” for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023”. The left barrel is bored 0.739” and has a constriction of 0.018” for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022”. (You will note in the photo of the barrel flats that the bore of the right barrel is listed at 18.8mm diameter. That equates to 0.740”. The left barrel is listed at 18.7mm which equates to 0.739”.) *** The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut that has a deep hand rubbed oil finish. The butt has a thin horn buttplate that shows some wear. Stock dimensions are 14-1/2” over the 3/8” horn buttplate by 1-9/16” by 2-7/16”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws.
