Description:
1924 vintage Lefever Nitro Special in good condition. Ithaca bought the Lefever Arms Co. in 1916 and produced a few of these sideplated guns designed by Dan Lefever until production ceased in 1919 and Ithaca mothballed the Lefever name. In 1922 the Ithaca Gun Co. produced the “Lefever Nitro Special” using the well-known name of Dan Lefever to call attention to their affordable but well-made double shotguns. The Lefever Nitro is quite a gun for the money. Featuring boxlock with exctractor, through bolt stock fastening system for a tight draw up of wood-to-metal, buttstock fitted to the rebated frame to prevent splitting, nicely hand-checkered walnut stock with grip cap, bone and charcoal case colored receiver, and basically the same cocking cam system as the more expensive Ithaca NID gun. This shotgun locks up tight with the lever sitting right of center, and features 30" barrels, 2-3/4" chambers, and is choked Full and Modified. The bores are bright and shiny with no dents. All functions work as they should. The buttstock does not appear to have been cut, but has had a 1/2" pachmayr pad added to it. The forend has had an old repair using a bolt. This is a solid old American SxS shotgun for the money that would be a good candidate for restoration or put to use in the field as is.
