Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: Here we have an honest and true 6 shot single action Remington Model 1861 Percussion revolver chambered in .44 caliber. This beautiful example has not had the conversion done that would allow the cylinder pin to be removed without dropping the loading lever which would eventually let the cylinder fall out while shooting. This alteration was found to unsuccessful and the loading levers were then fitted with a screw that would prevent the cylinder pin from working it's way loose. This model was only made during the year 1862, before being superseded by the next model in the line, the “New Model” 1863. The Remington design was generally preferred over the Colt of the period since the 1861 had a top strap on the frame which made the gun seem more durable and strong. This beautiful revolver has an 8" octagon barrel and is in excellent physical and mechanical condition. The hammer, cylinder and trigger all operate as they were designed to function. The metal surfaces have taken on a warm patina and there is some high edge wear. The front sight is a dovetailed brass bead and the rear is a grooved trough in the frame top strap. Remington made between 9,000 and 12,000 of these fine revolvers. The oiled walnut grip panels are in excellent condition with only one small chip on the left side bottom front. This revolver is truely a piece of history and would make a wonderful addition to an existing collection or a fine beginning of a new collection. If this beautiful revolver could talk it would surely have tales of adventure and danger. PRICE: SOLD We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, a dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
