The Model 21 is an American icon with a well-deserved reputation. A strikingly handsome gun made with the finest steels. Sport shooters in the know have utilized this Winchester model in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure. This fine M21 Standard Grade, serial number 521 built circa 1930, is a great example of a pre-war vintage gun with the very best of modern shooting features. With excellent bores with just a small amount of lite frosting after the forcing cones (nothing that would impar the guns function), barrels tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, top lever way to the right, rarely found double triggers and extractors and great shooting dimensions, this Winchester is mechanically sound and pretty to look as well.
The gun's metal surfaces have been expertly restored by Turnbull Restoration of New York and all parts are finished with their beautiful Charcoal blue finish. The barrels retain 99% blue with the factory rollmarks still sharp and clean, the receiver, lever, trigger guard and forend catch have perfect Turnbull bluing, the stocks have checkering in great condition with finer LPI on the wrist. There are no cracks or repairs in the wood, a few field marks are evident, and the American Walnut furniture exhibits both burl, feathering and straight grain with fiddleback evident on both sides of the stock. The mechanics and screws are perfect - ready for the highest volume, heaviest loads you would ever want to feed into a shotgun. This gun weighs in at 7lb 8oz, which is on the light side for an American 12ga double guns and light for a M21 especially with 30” tubes! The barrels are choked Modified/Full (actual constriction is 10 thou' right barrel and 34 thou' left barrel, which in Winchester specs is technically M/F but the right barrel is really a light mod, which is perfect for hunting and clays). A matted solid rib provides the correct elegant side by side profile for such a gun. Triggers break at 4lb and 5lbs respectively and the gun balances 1/4" in front of the pin- ideal.
If you like to shoot the heaviest loads at spinning disks or high flying avian targets or just plan on shooting a high volume of clay or birds, this is the gun! With only 30,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), a quality Model 21 is a valuable investment. Finding a gun like this, expertly restored with great features is a perfect way to own a tangible asset that is a joy to use and will continue to gain value as you take game and break targets. Priced to get itself back in the game, don’t let this one get away.
