Spies marked) Pepperbox, 4”x31, early Grafton style with dog-leg dropped handle and made without the nipple shield. These were the beginnings of a long line of Allen pepperboxes and while I’m unsure of the exact place it fits in the Allen progression of advancements, suffice to say it ismost likely pre-1839 manufacture. Marked only with the agents name (Spies), it is considerably more desireable than those with the Allen markings. It has a brown patina overall, one broken nipple, a poorly “jerry-rigged” mainspring, and replaced grips. With a proper mainspring replacement, it should work correctly; as it is, it does not. However, it is a VERY early Allen Pepperbox and will be a great addition to a modest pepperbox collection. About Good/Good+ $665 SOLD Antique: Yes |
