Description:
#4974 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44-40, 104XXX range (1884), VG bore (about a 7 on a scale of 10) and smooth tight action with all clicks on the hammer. The metal is extremely nice conditioned revolver for its age and far above the average for a pre-1890s gun, and it has no pitting or serious wear anywhere. It also retains virtually ALL the highly sought after “COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER” light etched panel barrel logo (which admittedly, you’ll need good light and pretty good eyes to see it, but it is there!) ….and a smooth, even coverage of a fine brownish patina overall with some faint hints of blue in the more protected areas. The cylinder and straps are also this same patina, and it also has a great pair of the highly desireable Eagle hard rubber grips which do show pretty heavy wear (the Eagle, arrows, and peace boughs look more like a chicken holding some sticks while sitting on a haystack!) However, they do fit perfectly and appear to be the original grips to this “Lincoln County Cattle War Period” Colt and even have the serial number scratched inside the grips, which is correct. The overall look on this 1880s S/A is far, FAR above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt and it looks totally correct to me and it DOES come with an original Colt factory letter (which is now $150). There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early Civilian S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 20 in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a really fine conditioned major piece of the Wild West frontier cartridge handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
