Definitely FAR above the usual condition for one of these VERY hard used and much abused little 1840s pocket sized guns and obviously this one was British made and not the most often encountered cheapie “cottage industry” type weapons. These big-bore single shot percussions were the most common hand gun during the 1848/49 California Gold Rush with the gold seekers and miners who would stash one of these durable inexpensive little guns in their high-top boots as they squatted down and panned for gold. If set upon by robbers, the kneeling panner could easily snatch this gun out of his boot and defend himself at close range. This is a well made one and aside of having a weak mainspring (but will still “pop a cap”), it is in very fine condition for one of these utilitarian guns. About VG++ as described. $295 SOLD |
