Description:
#4776 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB 44WCF, Second Model in the 65XXX range (1881 mfgr). Smooth but VERY tight action that should get some light honing …or at the least, some lubrication! Fine+ bore, being about a 8+ on a scale of 10 and not having any deficits of mention, just some dust, dirt, and minor light lead build-up. Markings are very good and has the caliber unmarked barrel and elevator as is proper on the 2nd Variation ‘73s, however the serial number is very light due to wear at the wrist area from use. The wood itself shows just very minor LIGHT wear, no serious bumps, bruises, and having no slivers on either the buttstock , just a couple of light chips on the buttstock toe, but the forestock DOES have a small “dishing” just forward of the frame from carrying over a saddle. The exterior is a mottled smooth grayish-brown patina with some scattered VERY light and very minor spots crustiness build-up which is hardly mentionable. (It kind of looks like it had a case colored frame, but I have not “lettered” it to find out.) Original dust cover, pinched blade front and correct 2nd Model rear buckhorn barrel sight. Overall, this is a very decent early 1880s Winchester, and except for mentionable deficits, such as the stiff action and the peened over ejection port cover screw (see photos), it has an overall very handsome appearance. Overall this is a WELL above average ’73 that looks to be an all correct piece of Western history. About VG+ as described. $2475
