Description:
#4825 Whitneyville 1879 rifle, RBFMCB 44WCF with a G-VG bore (5-6 on a scale of 10) and smooth long throw action. This is an early production in the C2xx range circa (1882-83) and thus having the serpentine lever. At that point, Whitney Arms still had a little piece of the lever action market, but it was shrinking due to the entering of Marlin into the lever action rifle pool to complete with Winchester. This rifle is in VERY Fine condition overall ….if not for the many deep dings and gouges on the barrel, some of which look to actually be showing up in the bore! The blue is about 75-80% coverage of a 60% density on the frame, with about the same on the barrel but thinning and fading more to a 40% density. The wood is very good to fine as well, and the markings are fine wuth the exception of the first part of the address line where the dings are very pronounced. Still, this is a REALLY nice Whitney, and if the next owner knows a good metalsmith who can “move metal” with a hammer and drift (I’ve seen a few who could, but all long passed away), this could be an Ex.Fine rifle. $2795
