Description:
ENGRAVED Antique JOSEPH KEMP Travelers PERCUSSION Self Defense BELT Pistol

English Percussion Pistol Made Circa the 1840s!

Here we present an antique Joseph Kemp Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s in London, England. Joseph Kemp was a successful gunmaker who worked out of several different shop location throughout the 1840s. There are no entries in the British gunmaking directory for Kemp after 1850, although its likely that he joined up with his brother as it shows the “Kemp Brothers” were listed all the way through 1860. So, this pistol was likely made in the middle of the 19th Century.

This pistol features a large .53 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt with the attached belt hook. It also has a very desirable captive ramrod that would prevent this vital piece of kit from being lost when being carried. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels.

The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent with a good mainspring and good half- and full-cock notches. The bore is in nice shape for age, clean with sharp rifling. The grip is solid. Clear maker’s name and Birmingham proofs on the barrel. The holster is an older one that looks handmade for this piece. It remains in great shape.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5-1/8 inches.

Caliber: .53 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
