.54 caliber 42.5"" octagonal barrel percussion trade musket by Jacob Fordney.Gun is believed to be one of the 250 contracted by the U.S. Government in 1837. Metal is a brown patina with moderate oxidation noted. Barrel is marked J Fordney/Lancaster/PA and is still legible. Wood is good with an old repaired crack noted from the rear pipe to the middle thimbles. Dings and handling wear are visible as is a coating of old varnish that has been applied. Action functions with no half cock.
