Description:
This modern built Pennsylvania longrifle is patterned after the Allentown - Bethlehem school of gun making in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The lightly figured maple stock was made from a plank with nice and even curl the entire length and has a 13.5 inch length of pull. The 42 inch long barrel is 1 inch thick at the breech then thins out in the center and flares back out again towards the muzzle. This is known as a "swamped" barrel and is made by the Collerain Barrel Company. The bore is in new condition and has only been fired to sight in and check for proper function. The light, crisp trigger pull and a White Lightnin' touch hole liner provide reliability and accuracy. The patchbox is engraved with a folk art running deer, which is an early American style of engraving. Craftsmen of this era used scrapers instead of sandpaper to smooth and shape wood, so there are scraper marks around some of the carvings and moldings. All of the wood and metal work is finished to give a warm aged appearance. The top barrel flat is signed "W. Braaten 2022".
