Description:
#4971 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 15XXX range (1875), fine bore with just some very light leading, and a smooth, tight action with all four clicks on the hammer. The metal is really VERY nice for its age and well above average for what is basically a no-finish old “cowboy era” gun, and it has an even thin brown patina with virtually no pitting or serious wear anywhere. Correct italic style early address line, Bulls-eye ejector rod head, matching numbers including barrel and cylinder, but does have the 3rd style ejector housing which started in 1877. The one-piece original wood grips have small flea-bite chips at both toe edges but otherwise are really fine grips. The overall look is certainly well above what one usually sees for such an early 1875 year production (145 years old!) cowboy Colt. But suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been enhanced and/or “juiced-up” to some degree (especially the very highly sought after and desirable militaries), that one should always take the possibility of some degree upgrading from the many previous owners and this gun has been valued and priced with that possibility in mind, although in MY opinion, aside of the later style ejector housing, this revolver looks pretty danged good and I don’t see anything else that looks incorrect. There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable and very early Civilian S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 20+ in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real great opportunity to own a real early piece of the most coveted of all of the many Wild West frontier cartridge handguns, and one of the fastest value appreciator in the antique firearms field. $4495
