Description:
This Summer of 1967 Colt SP1 (sporter) has Been in my personal collection sinc 2017.. Although not featured in the book it is one of the rifles that Perry and I used to do comparisons with other AR's of the same era. It shows to Be 100% factory correct. I have not owned it since new so I cannot attest that it is original although it absolutely appears to be. It has the 3 prong Flash Hider with the S12 marked Barrel the "s" (inspectors stamp) still shows to Be in the white as it was done after finish is an indicator of how little use this rifle has seen. Neither the front sight or the handgaurds have Drain holes and show little wear. The Bolt carrier is smooth side with no relief cut below the firing pin and no markings. The Bolt is parkerized with the "MP" stamping. The fire control components are correct for a 1966 or later rifle (thru the end of Production). The handgaurds, pistol grip and no trap buttstock are in nearly perfect condition with an absolute minimum of scuffing and a Matt finish. Te exterior metal shows Better than 98% with the only appreciable wear being from the ejection port door slapping open during manual operation. Even the bottom of the Bolt carrier and corresponding edge on the Hammer show an absolute minimum of scuffing. It would appear that what wear this rifle shows is from Manual operation (playing with it ) rather than shooting it. The bore shows flawless. The onlly thing to show any appreciable wear is the (correct) magazine that was in it when I purchased it. If I had one that matched the wear of the rifle I would have changed it. The sling is correct for the gun and appears original to the rifle. Even the Rubber coating on the swivels shows excellent and that is usually the first victim of use. The only possible way I could see to upgrade this rifle would be to find one New In The Box which would Doublle the cost (if you could find one).
