The Marlin Model 1895 Express Long Rifle is a lever-action hunting rifle chambered in .45-70 Government. The Model 1895XLR features a 24? stainless steel barrel, along with stainless steel lever, trigger guard plate, magazine tube and loading gate. The 1895XLR also features a black/grey laminated hardwood stock with pistol grip, checkering and a deluxe recoil pad. The 1895XLR employs an adjustable folding rear sight with a front sight brass bead and Wide-Scan brand hood. The barrel has undergone Marlin’s Ballard-type rifling, which carves six deep and wide grooves that are supposed to help improve accuracy on high-power rifles. It’s a slow process that puts almost no stress on the metal. The .45-70 cartridge was originally designed by Springfield Armory for use in the Springfield Model 1873. It’s similar to .444 Marlin in that it’s preferred for hunting large game at a shorter range. Marlin recommends the Model 1895XLR for hunting large game.
