Description:
Offered for sale is one (1) Mauser 1910 Early Sidelatch, all matching serial # 1030, cal 6.35mm (.25acp).  Mechanism functions perfectly.  Overall rating is 88-90%.  The finish loss is confined to left side frame and area of the slide legend.  Entire right side, top of slide, barrel, and all of underside are in very good original condition. Very nice clean bore.  Grips are not cracked but have smoothed down checkering.  Early sidelatchs have a unique characteristic, a tiny safety release button, approximately 4mm in diameter.  From Roy Pender's book "Mauser Pocket Pistols 1910-1946" the author says on page 46 less than 5000 model 1910 were produced with the small safety release button.  This tiny safety release button distinguishes an early sidelatch from all other sidelatches that follow.  From the work done by researchers Ed Buffaloe and Burgess Mason III, titled "Mauser Pistols: 1910. 1914, WTP HSc", other characteristics of early 1910 sidelatches include the nickel plated magazines, not drilled for viewing.  After serial 2500, magazines show up with 8 viewing holes.  Also from their work, it is reported early examples have a long spring release for the safety, extending to the bottom of the frame, and the ejector is milled into the frame.  You will see that in the pictures.  Other characteristics found on Mauser Sidelatches are: a round front sight,  no milling on front under side of frame for the takedown retainer, extractor is short-bottleneck at rear,  frame is recessed in front of grip for magazine base plate, sideplate has a milled latch and a large banner, slide markings on left is a fine one line address and serial number, slide markings on right is the definitive proof which is a crown U.  Slide has 9 serrations.  This gun has the serial #1030 stamped on the front left slide, but on the underside of the slide a second number has been stamped, that being #1173.  This interior slide number has been reported before, with some speculation it is a property number, possibly police.  For sale in lower USA and Alaska.  I ship through a local dealer here, so when payment arrives or clears, they will contact you for your FFL.  Or, include FFL with payment.  Shipping to lower USA 48 states $30.  Alaska $80.  Thanks for looking.
