Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Handsome Scottish-made A&D boxlock ejector with profuse well-executed engraving and highly figured stock. Playfair no. 2240 was made circa 1890 – 94 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Unique configuration with combination of an Anson & Deeley action with a Purdey thumbhole opener. Southgate ejectors. Very sharp looking and great handling double from Aberdeen. Weighs 6lb 15oz.   ***   The 28” nitro steel sleeved barrels are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “Playfair  Union Bridge  Aberdeen”. The Southgate ejectors operate properly but the right ejector spring displays a little weakness when only the right barrel has been fired. The right barrel is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.009 for Quarter choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is also bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.023 for Half choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032.   ***   Highly figured replacement straight hand stock and original splinter forearm with a horn forearm tip. Checkering on the stock is crisp but that on the forearm shows some wear and could use a little freshening. Stock dimensions are 14-1/8” including a 5/8” recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-3/8”. Cast ON for the lefthand shot but could be bent to cast-off.   ***   Nice handling Scottish-made boxlock. You will enjoy owning this unique and ruggedly handsome double.   ***  Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when the firearm arrives at your FFL dealer or is delivered to your designated shipping address if classified as an Antique Firearm. Returns at buyer’s expense.
