Description:
REMINGTON MODEL 1875 MEXICAN CONTRACT .44-40 CAL. SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER CA. 1878-9 OUT OF SAN ANTONIO, TX. Six shot with 7 ½” barrel with “E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION. N.Y. U.S.A.” address. Both the left and right side of barrel, right side of frame and underside of right grip Remington contract inspection stamped “STAR.B” a procedure which Remington used on Model 1875 Army Revolver’s contracted for by foreign governments such as Egypt and Mexico and which we believe relates to the latter of which several are known. Factory nickel plated overall with walnut grips. Serial number 339 stamped on the underside of the barrel lug. Barrel stamped “44” at the left breech of the barrel and top of barrel stamped “1871” very probably a contract serial number applied by the contractor. Top strap with two added small tap holes for attaching an adjustable sight. Very good overall with considerable original nickel finish with wear. Underside of barrel at muzzle with seven notches added in front of the ejector rod housing. Butt strap filed and dented to remove a marking which was probably “R de M” for Republic of Mexico. Grips with the original finish. Working order and good bore. Scarce and desirable Southwestern frontier era Remington. From San Antonio family who purchased it prior to WW2 at .
