ULTRA RARE ALL ORIGINAL CONFEDERATE STATES ARMORY RICHMOND 1864 DATED SHORT RIFLE. 33” round .577 caliber barrel with small “V/P/EAGLE HEAD” proofs at the breech. Never on the market by continuous descent from a southern Virginia family with numerous Confederate ancestors. Scarcest of all Richmond’s with only 600 produced in 1864 and 400 in 1865. Late War production and subjected to very hard use with low survival rate with probably less than 100 in existence. Interestingly the stock is carved with a “DOVE” on the left butt with five “X” marks carved in the middle which may represent the number of Yankee lives taken with this rifle. Very good overall with all correct features including the sling swivels and ramrod. Complete with exception of rear sight which is missing. With family provenance.
