Description:
NEEDS TO GO NOW SO FURTHER REDUCED BY CONSIGNOR - With 50 plus years full time in this business I have seen many many cartridge conversions made from percussion muskets, but I have never seen this one.  This is an 1863 Springfield .58 Caliber Musket with a Lock dated 1864, that has been converted to fire the .58 Caliber Rim Fire Berdan cartridge.  While there were many of these conversions by different companies in both center and rim fire I have never seen this particular conversion.  We have no idea who did this conversion but we know it was certainly done after the Civil War ( or more correctly The War Of Northern Aggression), and the quality of the conversion indicates it was certainly done by a company or an arsenal and not in some blacksmith's shop.  This rifle certainly deserves further research as it may be the only known example!  Rifle has the original bayonet, and remains in excellent original condition with a very good bore.
