Description:
FINE CONDITION SPECIAL ORDER 1886 .33 WCF CALIBER RIFLE WITH FULL MAGAZINE, #131XXX, SHIPPED 1904.  The standard for the .33 caliber 1886 was to have a half-magazine. A full magazine was strictly special order. This one has a call-in sheet from the Cody Museum (I called this one in) which verifies that this rifle left the factory with a full magazine. The sheet also mentions it had a shotgun butt, "rubber." It now has a correct checkered steel butt plate. So, either the rubber was replaced with steel or the factory made an error in recording the butt plate material- either way is minor. The barrel and mag tube retain most of the original deep blue with only the most minor thinning of the barrel sides toward the muzzle. All excellent markings on the barrel and upper tang, barrel fitted with correct flattop buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a Lyman marked "Jack" sight (half moon with ivory bead) fitted in the correct raised base. Receiver shows fine blue with some wear on the right side rear top and on the receiver bottom. There is also some light edge wear and excellent blue on the bolt on top along with the upper and lower tangs. Butt stock and forend are excellent with only the lightest handling marks and very tight wood to metal fit. Action is tight and the bore is excellent with sharp rifling. Excellent screw heads. The .33 WCF was the only purely smokeless cartridge made for the Model 1886 and is simply the .45-70 necked down to .338" diameter. One of the more potent calibers of the day. Nice example that with the full magazine truly looks like an 1886 should look.
