Antique FRENCH Percussion .70 Caliber FIGHTING Pistol European Martial 1800
Early-1800s Officer’s Pistol
Here we present an antique French Officer’s Pistol, made circa the early-1800s. This pistol is holster-sized and has a massive .70 caliber bore. Swamped octagonal barrel that is 9 ¼ inches long. Nicely performed engraving on the steel hardware. It would have originally been made as a flintlock that was later updated to percussion. This would have been the type of pistol an officer purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Lightly carved grip, nice checkering. There are a few cracks on the left side of the fore end and a repaired chip can be seen on the right side at the muzzle. Sharp engravings.
