Description: The 1911 is perhaps the most famous semi-automatic pistol ever made having a long and successful carrier in both military and civilian use. The 1911 and its cartridge, the famous .45 ACP, were designed by John Moses Browning to fulfill a requirement by the U.S. Army for a new service pistol which would also become the first semi-automatic to be officially adopted by the U.S. Army, replacing the M1909 revolver in .45 Colt in service. The 1911 proved to be one of the most reliable and durable semi-automatic pistols ever designed, successfully serving the U.S. Armed Forces through World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The 1911 has long been popular in shooting circles as a match or target pistol, but can still be found for use as a duty weapon. The Springfield 1911A1 Operator is intended to fulfill both functions, and to that end, features a match-grade, stainless steel barrel, ambidextrous safety, Novak-style night sights, and integral picatinny rail in the frame for mounting a light or laser. Magazine capacity is 7 rounds and the pistol comes with two of these. This example is an earlier version of the Operator, with newer versions featuring a white dot rear sight and tritium front. This previously owned Operator is in excellent condition and shows few signs of wear, thanks to the durability of the cerakote finish. The only visible wear is on the left side of the trigger due to friction between the trigger and frame. The original grips have been replaced by the classic Pachmayr Gripper for better comfort when shooting the pistol. The bore is a little dirty but there is no rust or pitting. The recoil spring is still strong and operation of the slide is tight. The night sights retain their full glow in darkness. In addition to the 2 magazines, the Operator comes with the original Springfield soft carry case, paperwork, and cleaning tools.
