SELDOM SEEN AUSTIN & HALLECK OF WESTON, MISSOURI .50 CALIBER PERCUSSION HALF STOCK SELECT GRADE "MOUNTAIN RIFLE." This was a very high-end muzzle loader made in the U.S.A. They went out of business/were bought out in 2006. After this quality suffered, but those marked "Weston, Missouri" are top notch. Most of these have a slow rifling twist for round ball and are marked on the left side of the 32" barrel. This one has the very rare 1-28" fast twist that will stabilize a heavy .50 caliber bullet or a patched round ball. They came in standard and select grade with select grade having fancy maple stocks. The stock an this example is a gorgeous reddish/brown with full striping. Furniture iron and it and barrel are browned. This is a heavy Hawken-style rifle with double set triggers and classic lines throughout. Generally excellent condition with a few very light handling marks/scratches in the stock. At the toe of the stock, if you look very carefully, there are some hairline crack lines coming forward from the butt plate for an inch or so, but go nowhere and are NOT breaks or chips in the stock- I took close-up photos in bright light to show how minor this is. I mention it because they are there, but really don't mean much and are hard to see. Comes with a full color A & H catalog showing this and other models, Mountain Rifle Shooters Manual, Warranty information and Warranty card etc. The Austin and Halleck envelope this info comes in is post marked March 2, 1999. A stunning American made rifle.
