Description:
Standard configuration with 22 inch barrel chambered in 54 caliber. Brass mounted patchbox, buttplate and trigger guard. Unique lever activating breech marked "J.H MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858" "2175". Lock is marked "J.H. MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858 / APL. 9 MAY 21-28-61" "2175". This Merrill is very good to fine overall. Barrel left in the white and is bright with some staining. The front sight has either been trimmed or replaced to a rectangular iron blade. 2 position rear sight. Breech, lever, lock, hammer & saddle ring bar retain most of an old applied case color. Sharp markings. Brass has been cleaned long ago and is toning to a light mustard patina. Stock is sound and lightly sanded with a small inset rear of saddle ring bar. Mechanically fine with a good bore.
