PERCUSSION Pocket Revolver Early Manufacture SERIES I / “ESCELSIOR” Variation Here we present an antique Engraved Bacon Manufacturing Company Series I Pocket Revolver, made circa the late 1850s in Norwich, Connecticut with a production run between 1858 and 1867. Thomas K. Bacon was the founder of the company and was also involved with the Manhattan Fire Arms Co. as the superintendent. He also had business dealings with Ethan Allen and Allen & Thurber. There was a small number of these .31-caliber percussion pocket revolvers made. While about 1,400 were sold with “BACON” markings, they were also offered with the names of other dealers. This is a First Model, also known as the “Excelsior.” It has an engraved cylinder scene, a feature that was lacking on the Second Model. Barrel lengths were 4, 5, and 6 inches. Both round and octagonal barrels were used, with the octagonal being the most common. When Manhattan moved their operation away from Norwich, Bacon left the company to stay behind and work on his own firearms manufacturing company. Part of Bacon’s contract with Manhattan included a “no-compete” clause that he would have been in violation of if the heads of Manhattan had bothered to sign the agreement. Nevertheless, they still took him to court with no official judgement recorded. Bacon’s arms were popular on the commercial market and many made their way onto Civil War battlefields upon being privately purchased by soldiers. Here is a nicely engraved Thomas Bacon revolver to add to your Civil War collection! The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action is strong with a caveat: when the hammer is cocked the cylinder indexes and locks up properly, however, when the trigger is pulled and the hammer drops the bolt unlocks and the cylinder revolves slightly before it is time. The bore is in good shape with strong rifling. The grips are solid. Very nice cylinder scene! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
