Description:
The Single Six can be considered as the definitive 22-caliber single action revolver. It has been used for a variety of purposes ranging from target shooting to varmint hunting, whether it be for the acquisition of food or fur-selling. The early Single-Sixes used a windage-adjustable rear sight similar to the older Colt SAA target models. This was later replaced by the now-standard micrometer-click rear sight. Some also had a flat loading gate, though most, like this one, have the rounded loading gate. Up until the New Model Single Six was introduced, all Single-Sixes lacked a transfer safety bar inside the frame, much like the original Colt SAA revolver upon which the Single-Six is based. Thus, it is considered safer to leave the chamber under the hammer empty. The example shown is the standard model and was built in 1955. It has never been sent back to the factory to have the safety transfer bar installed. It is in fairly good shape for the age of 67 years old. There is some finish wear and pitting on the hammer, loading gate, and ejector rod housing. There is a spot of finish loss on the recoil shield on the left side of the receiver. In addition to a turn ring and the forward edges, the cylinder also exhibits finish loss on the outermost edges of its face, suggesting the cylinder used to rub up against the forcing cone at one point. Regardless, the cylinder currently functions as it should without any hiccups. In contrast to the outside, the bore is in excellent shape with little to no rust or pitting present. It is very bright when shining a light through it. Overall, this revolver would make an excellent plinking or squirrel gun. It could also be used to teach someone to shoot a single-action revolver. There is no box or manual, though the latter can be found online quite easily.
