REMINGTON MARKED w/ Swiss Butt Plate & SCOPE
Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Company Single Shot Maynard Rifle in .36 Caliber Centerfire, made by Massachusetts Arms Co. of Chicopee Falls, Mass. This rifle appears to have been converted from percussion to centerfire. It was likely originally a cavalry carbine that was surplussed after the American Civil War. This one has a Remington octagonal barrel in about .366 caliber (muzzle; .429” approximately chamber diameter). It is topped with a brass optical scope with a simple crosshair. It looks like at one point it might have had a tang sight. The stock is target style with a Swiss butt plate. The plate with the slot on the right side of the frame and barrel operates an extractor when the breech is opened up.
The overall condition is good+. Original Patina. Excellent action. Bright bore, and is nicely rifled. The barrel tang is drilled and tapped as for a tang sight. This example sports a solid stock containing an average amount of wear. Sharp markings. Near fine scope.
