Description:
This beautiful 1963 vintage Egyptian Army Hakim rifle is 100% original and all matching except for the buttplate.  Very seldom do we encounter these rifles with this much original finish and in such excellent condition.  More often than not, they have very little original blue finish and the bores are pitted with lots of visible erosion.  Originally designed in Sweden, the semi-auto gas-operated 8mm Mauser "Hakim" rifle design and tooling was sold to Egypt in the 1950's, where it was produced into the 1960's with approximately 70,000 rifles manufactured.  The Hakim rifle was the main battle arm of the Egyptian Army until it was replaced with the Maadi AK-47 in the mid-1960's.  During it's service life it proved to be an excellent weapon; reliable, accurate, powerful, and well-made.  This particular Hakim appears to have been issued but well-cared for and shot very little.  As you can see in the pictures provided, the original factory finish shows only some minor light finish wear and handling marks but nothing major, and all of the metal parts have a consistent and attractive patina to them.  The bore is clean and bright, with no pitting or notable imperfections visible.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout the bore with no visible erosion.  All of the original factory numbered parts are matching and original, except the buttplate.  This was likely a field or arsenal level repair as you can see the spliced-in wood at the top of the buttstock where it was damaged, likely along with the original buttplate.  Rather than repairing and re-installing the damaged original buttplate they used an extra that they had in their parts box or shop.  The factory original stock set is in excellent condition overall.  It is very smooth and attractive with a uniform color on both parts of the stock set.  The stock lacks the typical numerous small dings and dents you often see on military rifles from this period.  There are two arsenal/field repairs to the stock set, the one mentioned earlier where the heel was repaired and there is a small spliced-in strip of wood on the top of the handguard just ahead of the rear sight where a minor crack was repaired and strengthened.  Both of the repairs were expertly done.  All of the stock hardware is intact and in good condition.  There is one small alteration to the top of the lower barrel band where it was drilled and a small screw was inserted here to further stabilize the barrel band.  When this was done or who did it we have no idea, it does appear to have been there a very long time.  This can be best seen in picture number 19.   The action and all of the controls and functions of this Hakim are in perfect working order.  Mechanically this rifle shows very little to no wear to the internal parts.  The action is still nice and tight but slick with no sloppiness, and the bolt slams into battery with authority when released.  We have no doubt that this 8mm Mauser Hakim will function just as well today as when it left the factory 59 plus years ago.  If you have been looking for investment-quality Hakim rifle for your collection that is handsome, original, complete, and 1005 functional, this example would be an excellent choice. These Hakims seem to be steadily increasing in value every year so they will likely never be cheaper than they are now!
